This directory links to the national institutions responsible for official statistics across Western Africa, alongside regional organizations and portals that publish or coordinate statistical data. Use the national office as the starting point for official country figures, methods, releases, and data catalogs.
Scope: This page uses the United Nations Statistics Division’s M49 subregion “Western Africa.” M49 is a statistical geography, not a statement about political or organizational membership. It includes 16 sovereign states; Saint Helena is a separate territory and is not listed as a sovereign state here. ECOWAS, UEMOA/WAEMU, and AFRISTAT have their own membership and mandates, so their coverage differs.

How to use this directory
For a country statistic, begin with its national office and check the release date, reference period, definition, methodology, and revision status. For cross-country comparisons, confirm that concepts and periods are harmonized before comparing values. Regional portals are useful for discovery and comparable series; they do not replace the original national release.
Official websites can move or temporarily go offline. If a link fails, use the ECA source directory or the relevant regional portal to locate the current national office. This directory links to institutions; it does not certify or reproduce the accuracy of every dataset hosted by them.
Sources and editorial method
- Regional scope: UN Statistics Division, Standard Country or Area Codes for Statistical Use (M49).
- Institution names and national links cross-checked against the ECA directory of National Statistical Offices and the ECA Price Watch source directory, then updated where a current national agency site was available.
- Regional organization scope checked against the official ECOWAS, AFRISTAT, BCEAO, and WAMA websites.
